One family's dream of helping out others

Thrive Farmer's Market is the dream of a couple who not only wishes to help themselves, but other struggling families too.

Willem Swanepoel is a dyslexic man who has never learned to read or write, and as a result he is struggling to find work. He has a wife and 2 year old daughter and this market will enable him to provide for his family as well as help other struggling families.

Thrive Farmer's Market will be no ordinary market. Small businesses will be able to have a stall at the market without having to pay an upfront fee. Instead a percentage of their sales will be paid to the market until their monthly stall fee is paid. This will enable them to expose their products to a huge potential market without any financial risk.  Their products will also be marketed online and available for delivery throughout Cape Town.

The smallholding where the market will be held will also be utilised as a party venue and coffee shop to help sustain the market. The idea is to create a relaxed and fun family venue, but to keep everything affordable as well. A day out shouldn't cost you half your salary!

Please help us reach our dream by supporting our project.  If we raise R500,000, we can rent the property where we wish to start the market as well as buy a delivery vehicle and create an online shop for the products. Should we raise R6,000,000 we can buy the property, the delivery vehicle and create an online shop.

Whether we start out renting or buying, we do eventually wish to purchase the property and help out struggling families even further by providing accommodation and helping them utilise the farm land to be self sufficient.

Our Passion

I know first hand what it feels like to live hand-to-mouth with no real assets to call my own. Having a disabled husband and a two year old daughter to care for, no place to call our own and no vehicle, we can pretty safely say we know what desperation feels like.

Through this project, we hope to not only change our own circumstances but also those of other struggling families, individuals, businesses and all people who wish to change their own circumstances through hard work and dedication.

Thrive Farmer's market will not be a hand-out organisation, people will be given the opportunity to change their circumstances and join a market with a huge potential. It will also add value to the greater Cape Town community through the delivery of quality farm produce and other homemade products, saving time it takes to go to the shops.

Funding will be used for

We need to pay a rental deposit on the smallholding (R30,000) and then we would like to have at least 6 months' rent available (R30,000 x 6 = R180,000). This will give our market vendors and ourselves enough time to build the business to a point where we can pay the rent through stall fees.
We need to purchase a delivery vehicle (R200,000)
Total: R410,000
The other R90,000 will be used for creating an online store, a small salary to the managing couple who will handle everything themselves and other ongoing expenses for the first 6 months.

More about our Project

I have spent the last year thinking out of the box to come up with this project. It is very personal to me. I believe that the modern system only creates a few select millionaires off of the efforts of everyone underneath them. Everyone works hard but only a few benefit.
This project is designed to be beneficial to all involved. All work together to create a business from which everyone benefits equally. My goal is not to make a huge profit for ourselves, but to plow profits back into the business to grow it so that more people can be helped. Beneficiaries of the product also don't develop "hand out syndrome". Nothing is given to them except for an opportunity to grow their own business.
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll eat every day.

We can also help you out on

Sharing our page would mean a lot to us :) Spread the word and help us reach our goal!
