MISSION STATEMENT:

WHO ARE WE?

MFULOKUPHILA COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTRE is a newly registered non-profit organization situated in the Eastern Cape Province (Amadiba area under Mbizana Municipality) this area has more than 15 surrounding schools and consists of a very large community.

We at Mfulokuphila Community Learning Centre would like to elevate and improve education of our children through the following:

  • A mobile books Library to be used by students (Grade 1 to Grade 12)

  • Information Technology via access to computers and internet for senior students

  • A Skills Based Centre that will offer free life-skills training to the youth and adult community.

  • A safe play area for children equipped with swings, slides etc.

  • Free Arts and culture lessons for children aged 6 to 13yrs

The biggest challenges faced in this rural area are

  • Poverty due to unemployment and the lack of skills.

  • Lack of information, learning material and resources.

  • Lack of adequate safe play areas and educational play areas for younger children.

As a result of these challenges, there is a high rate of failure in schools in the area, more especially in our Grade 12 learners.

THE BOARD:

The board currently consists of 7 members (listed below):

  1. Nokwanda Langazana

  2. Bathobile Mampofu

  3. Thulisile Ndwayi

  4. Zintle Sonjica

  5. Wandile Mboza

  6. Elijah Mgwijazwe

  7. Sbongile Booi

All board members are members of the community and are passionate about the upliftment of their community. The board meets once a week to discuss various ideas and issues. Minutes are taken at every meeting to ensure transparency and an accounting system has been put in place which is to be checked weekly and will be audited on a yearly basis so as to hold every single member of the board accountable.

ACTION AND COMMITMENT:

We aim to provide the following to as many community members as possible:

  1. Educational Civic and Cultural activities that will equip the community with the aim of becoming more self-sufficient.

  2. To stimulate the public interest in books and promote reading, knowledge, information and the enjoyment of reading.

  3. To encourage all students to perform at their full potential as independent leaders and develop a positive attitude to life-long learning.

  4. To develop an awareness in students of the importance of books and other resources (e.g. computers) as a means of recording and shaping of human achievements, failures and aspirations.

  5. To support vulnerable groups in the community to access information such as social health issues (e.g. Aids, HIV, etc.)

  6. To provide a supportive and stimulating environment for community members.

  7. To provide skills development for adult and youth alike which in the end could provide an income for the community (e.g. Life skills, Cooking, Sewing, Wood work, Clay work, Weaving, Knitting, /Crocheting, etc.)

We are currently in desperate need of a Mobile library in the form of an old caravan or sprinter that can be converted into a library. There is also an urgent need of fiction, non-fiction and reference books to enlarge the vocabulary of students. Our vision is to expand this at a later stage as well as build a fixed community center which will entail the following:

  • Local Charity food, clothing and developmental playing equipment for distribution to families in need.

  • Mobile Library for students who do not have access to a library.

  • Adult and Youth Skills Development Center.

  • Health Awareness Program aimed at educating the community on prevention and awareness.

MISSION:

1)         A fully functional Mobile Library to service the various schools in the area.

2)         Learning material as well as educational toys for young learners.

3)         Computers that can be utilized by older students.

4)         Adult and children skills development.

6)         Funding to maintain and grow project.
